Wellness Hacks for Better Skin

Why hello there! As the weather is warming up, it’s time to start preparing for hot girl summer. Now that things are opening back up and the world seems to be returning to pre-pandemic times, we have to prepare. I went into quarantine in March 2020 with pretty horrendous skin. I was constantly caking on make-up and wearing clothes that would hide my breakouts and dry skin. All of these methods I’m sharing today are tried and true, and have helped me achieve insane results.

Originally, this was supposed to be just one blog post. But as I was writing it, it began turning into a full novel about skin health, so I’m breaking this one up into two posts. Today we are talking about internal methods we can use for better skin. These three tips are things we can do to benefit our whole body’s skin and will help us achieve that beautiful, glowing, plump skin we all know and love. Be on the lookout for part 2, which will be all about different methods and products we can utilize to achieve better skin. Alrighty. Let’s get into the good stuff!

Spearmint tea

This is one of the best-kept celebrity skin secrets. Trust me- this one works wonders. This hack is so simple but so effective. Enter; spearmint tea. This tea works just like the drug spironolactone to regulate our androgen hormone. Let’s break this one down.

Androgen hormones- which are typically thought of as a ‘male’ hormone – are also present in low levels in women. Hormone acne can be caused by women having excess androgen, causing acne in the lower portion of the face. Doctors typically prescribe spironolactone (traditionally used as a medication to lower blood pressure) to women experiencing hormonal acne to combat these high levels of androgen. Spironolactone comes with a slew of side effects and can damage the gut. Luckily, spearmint tea has been shown to regulate the androgen hormone just like spironolactone, but without the annoying side effects. Drink this tea 2x daily for optimal results. I personally have noticed a huge difference with this one! As someone that has been on spironolactone in the past for my acne, I definitely prefer spearmint tea over a prescription drug.

Gut health

Gut health is SO important, not only for keeping your whole body functioning properly but for creating better skin. Our gut is like the second brain of our body, so it calls all the shots. If it’s not working right, you can see the consequences in many places including your skin. Luckily, there’s a ton of things we can do to support our gut. The first thing we can do is to make sure that we are eating a lot of gut-supporting foods. This includes fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, coconut yogurt, and bone broth. 

It’s also extremely important to take a daily probiotic to support your gut. I especially love Seeds probiotic. Healthy Fats

Our skin health relies on essential fatty acids to give us the healthy vibrant skin we all love and want. By eating essential fatty acids we can keep skin cells healthy and flexible, help our skin hold onto nutrients and moisture, and reduce inflammation. Yes, please!
