How to Get Rid of Acne Scars

Acne scars are the WORST. I’ve been dealing with mine since I was in middle school. I’ve tried every remedy under the sun, and most of them did absolutely nothing. None of the fancy creams or homemade DIY face-masks could fade my scars. I was certain there was no cure for me.

I thought wrong!! Once I started looking into specific ingredients and exfoliating properly, I noticed my acne scars were finally fading! I mean, some of these scars were over 8 years old! It was amazing. I’ve been using most of these products for about 1-2 months (some are newer than others) and I am seeing such amazing results. Seriously- these work better than the stuff my dermatologist gave me!

It’s All About Ingredients!

Two game-changing ingredients that have drastically healed my scars are Niacinamide and Vitamin C. Niacinamide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin. When I use a product with a high percentage of niacinamide, I always notice my skin breaks out less and the overall texture is so much smoother. Vitamin C is equally as fantastic. This ingredient boosts and brightens your skin while fighting off acne-causing bacteria.

Next Up, Exfoliation Time!

These amazing ingredients won’t truly help your skin unless the face is properly washed and exfoliated. Let’s look at the two kinds of exfoliation:

Proceed with caution when it comes to physical exfoliation. If done too harshly, you’ll just make your skin irritated and worse. I’ve definitely been there! I love the Conair Exfoliating Brush with UV Light. I usually wash my face with this every other night, very lightly. I love the UV light because it kills all the nasty bacteria from your skin!

This is the step in my skincare routine that makes my face feel brand spankin’ new. Chemical exfoliation works by using its ingredients to dissolve dead skin cells and impurities off of your face. This is SO important in getting rid of those pesky acne scars. My favorite chemical exfoliant is The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. If you have sensitive skin, I recommend taking it slow with this guy. Start with leaving it on for 5 minutes. Then work your way up to the full 10. I like to use this product 1-2 times a week.

Let’s Get Into Some Products!

Facetheory- Retin C Vitamin Oil

If you need a great retinol in your life, then this is for you. Don’t worry if you have sensitive skin- this product brings the power without causing irritation. Apply this to a clean face, only to scarred areas. Let the product sink in for about 15 minutes before applying any acne medicine so the skin has time to fully absorb the vitamins (my boyfriend learned that from his dermatologist! We LOVE an educated skincare man). This product has helped lighten my scars immensely. Bonus tip: It’s also amazing for fading stretch marks! Get yours here:

Herbivore- Blue Tansy

This is by far my favorite product. I have never been so impressed by a face mask! Better yet- it’s all-natural, vegan, and cruelty-free! The instructions say to use this every night for the first 4-5 days, and then 2-3 times per week afterward. Some users notice that their skin ”purges” the first two weeks of use, but then their skin fully clears. I personally didn’t experience the purging, but I did see a huge difference in the clarity and texture of my skin! Adiós, acne scars! Follow THIS LINK to get yours!

Paul’s Choice- Clinical Niacinamide 20%

This is my most recent purchase, and I have seen incredible results from using this! If you struggle with having uneven skin texture, dark spots, and acne scars, this will be your new holy grail. It will also heal any breakouts at a much faster rate. This product has 20% niacinamide, which is the highest percentage you can get. Super effective, definitely one to try!

The Ordinary- Niacinamide 10%+ Zinc 1%

This is a great option for someone with more sensitive skin who wants to try Niacinamide (only 10%). Not only is this a great product for healing acne scars, but The Ordinary uses zinc in the formula to help fight oil production. This product has an unbeatable price for anyone on a tighter budget, yet it still delivers incredible results! Buy this product directly from the website for the lowest price.

Let me know which ones you try and how you like them! Everyone’s skin is different, and there is no miracle product, but for me personally, these ones are pretty damn close!
